Since the first vintage in 1973, Moss Wood has established its name at the very top of wine producers in Western Australia, and indeed it is one of the best names in the whole of Australia. Moss Wood Cabernet is a 'exceptional' wine in the Langton's wine classification. This is the top echelon of this prestigious hierarchy.
The vineyard was planted by Dr Bill Pannell in 1969. He chose the Margaret River region, 320km south-west of Perth, because his research revealed that it enjoys a climate similar to that of Bordeaux in France. It is tempered by the sea on three sides, and is characterised by mild temperatures all year round.
In 1979, Keith Mugford, a Roseworthy graduate, was appointed winemaker and partner. Keith and Clare Mugford bought Moss Wood in 1985. Their attention to detail and dedication to quality has never wavered. The Moss Wood tradition of excellence continues.
